Download BP Talk
Scan the code to install the build straight on your phone, or use the button on a computer. A SHA-256 checksum file is published alongside every release.
Scan with your phone camera to download the build on that phone.
Verify what you download
Two different values, two different questions. Use the file checksum to prove the download was not corrupted, and the certificate fingerprint to prove it came from the same publisher as every previous release.
APK SHA-256 (file integrity)
d245991f43ad7987096b38bb15d9898048adf4b00d40124da2de700ea38e3800
Compare the value above with the output of sha256sum on the file you downloaded, or simply open the published .sha256 file and let sha256sum -c check it for you.
sha256sum ptt-talkie-0.13.7.apk
Signing certificate SHA-256 (publisher identity)
16620682b70c256ba4e27567537634b12cccfe0bbc9be12c3f186afc961b5359
Run apksigner verify --print-certs on the downloaded APK. The SHA-256 digest of the signing certificate must match the value above. This is a debug-signed build, so the certificate subject is the standard Android debug identity rather than a company name.
apksigner verify --print-certs ptt-talkie-0.13.7.apk
Installing the APK
Download the file
Use the button above on the phone you intend to install it on. Downloading directly on the device avoids transferring the file between machines.
Allow this one installation
Android will ask whether to allow installing apps from this source. Allow it for this install only — you can turn it back off afterwards.
Confirm the warning
Because the app is not distributed through an app store yet, Android shows a one-time warning. That is expected; the SHA-256 file above is how you confirm the file is the one we built.
Grant the microphone
The app needs microphone access to capture your voice while you hold the talk button. Nothing is recorded when the button is not held.
Allow background operation
Tap the banner on the talk screen and add BP Talk to the battery-optimisation whitelist, so Android keeps the channel alive with the screen off.
Permissions explained
| Microphone | Captures your voice while you hold the talk button. Nothing is recorded when the button is not held. |
|---|---|
| Notifications | Tells you when someone is speaking in a channel you have joined. |
| Foreground service | Keeps the channel listening while the screen is off, so you still hear incoming voice. |
| Network access | Carries voice between members. No account and no contact upload are involved. |
| Contacts | Not requested. BP Talk never reads or uploads your address book. |
| Location | Not requested. BP Talk does not collect or share your location. |
Before you install
Android 7.0 (API 24) or newer
The current build targets Android 7.0 and above. A single APK covers phones and tablets; Google Play services are not required.
Storage and data
The download is about 6.8 MB and needs roughly twice that free while installing. Voice uses a low speech bitrate, so ordinary use consumes far less data than a video call.
A network that allows standard web ports
The client connects over standard HTTP ports, which avoids the port filtering some mobile carriers apply to unusual traffic. If your network still struggles, contact us from the in-app feedback screen.
Only the official distribution channel
BP Talk is distributed only from this page and the download button inside the app. We do not publish the APK on third-party mirror sites or app stores. If you obtained the build anywhere else, treat it as untrusted and delete it. Security issues and vulnerability reports go to the security address listed on the contact page.
See what changed in each release
The changelog lists every published build with its date and the changes it contains.
