How it works

Four steps, about 30 seconds

No account, no phone number, no invitation link. Share a channel number and you are done.

1

Install and allow the microphone

Download the APK from this website and install it. If Android asks about installing apps from unknown sources, allow it once for this install. Then grant microphone access when the app asks.

2

Create or join a channel

Enter a 6-digit channel number and a nickname. Add a 6–8 digit password if the channel should stay private — everyone who joins has to know it.

3

Hold and speak

Press the big button to talk and release to listen. A one-second press of the volume-up key does the same thing, so you can talk with the phone in your pocket.

4

Keep it running in the background

Follow the banner on the talk screen to add PTT Talkie to the battery-optimisation whitelist. Without it, Android will pause background networking and you will stop hearing the channel.

Good to know

Things that make the difference in daily use

Everyone shares one channel number

There is nothing to invite and nothing to accept. Tell your team the 6-digit number and the password, and they are in.

The channel keeps your missed voice

If you lose signal, walk out of coverage or leave the app in the background, the voice you missed is kept and replayed in order when you return. Nothing has to be repeated.

Roles keep a channel tidy

The owner can mute or remove a member and hand over ownership. Admins can help manage the channel without being able to dissolve it.

No silent rejoining

If you leave a channel deliberately, the app records that choice locally and will not put you back in the background. Coming back is always something you do on purpose.

Troubleshooting

If something is not working

You stop hearing the channel with the screen off

Open the talk screen and tap the banner to open the battery-optimisation settings, then allow PTT Talkie to run without restrictions. This is the single most common cause.

You hear nothing after switching networks

Give it a few seconds. The app detects a broken connection by itself and reconnects; anything sent while you were away is replayed afterwards.

The volume key changes the volume instead of talking

A short tap always changes the volume. Hold the volume-up key for about one second to start talking.

Android blocks the installation

The app is distributed directly rather than through an app store, so Android shows a one-time confirmation. Allow the install for this file and continue.

The channel says it is full

Channels are sized for a working team. Ask the owner to remove members who have left, or create a second channel for another group.

Download and try it

Android 7.0 or newer, about 6.8 MB, no account required.
