Does PTT Talkie require an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email address and no phone number. Each installation generates a random device identifier locally, and nothing links it to a real person.
What platforms are supported?
The current public build targets Android 7.0 (API 24) and newer. It is a single APK and does not require Google Play services.
How does push-to-talk work?
Choose a channel, hold the talk button, speak, then release. Everyone in the channel hears the message. There is no call to set up and no ringing to wait for.
How many people can be in one channel?
Channels are sized for a working team rather than an audience. When a channel is full the server returns a clear message instead of quietly failing.
I stop receiving voice after the screen has been off for a while. Why?
Android restricts background networking to save battery. Tap the banner on the talk screen and allow the app to ignore battery optimisations. The system still limits background wake-ups, so whitelisting is the only way to stay truly real-time.
Do I have to rejoin after losing signal or changing networks?
No. The app notices a dead connection by itself, reconnects, and then replays the voice that was sent while you were away, in the original order.
Can it be used in Korea or other countries?
Yes. The service is reachable over the public internet and the client uses standard web ports, which avoids the port filtering some carriers apply. If your network still struggles, contact us from the in-app feedback screen.
How do I talk with the hardware keys?
Press and hold the volume-up key for about one second to start talking, then release to stop. A press shorter than one second simply raises the volume, as usual.
Does it collect personal information?
No account is created and contacts are never uploaded. Each installation generates a random device identifier, and voice segments are kept on the server for 24 hours only, so members who were offline can catch up.
Android warns that the package is unsafe. Is it?
The app is not distributed through an app store yet, so Android shows a one-time warning when you install it. That is expected — the download page publishes the file name, byte size and SHA-256 checksum so you can confirm the file is the one we built.
Where can I verify the APK?

Will I be charged for data usage?
Voice uses a speech-optimised low bitrate, so a full day of typical use consumes far less data than a video call. Actual usage depends on how much you talk.
Can I use it without giving the microphone permission?
No. Microphone access is required to capture your voice while the talk button is held. Nothing is recorded while the button is not held.
What happens to voice I missed?
It is kept on the server for 24 hours so it can be replayed to you in order, then removed automatically. On the device, your history stays until you clear the app data.
